From Concept to Production: A Practical Integrated Geothermal Workflow from Geological Modeling to Reservoir Simulation
Join us for a free, in person, one day geothermal workshop showing an end-to-end
workflow across Seequent’s portfolio. We will begin with a short Oasis montaj
demonstration to show how exploration inputs can be prepared and handed over
into Leapfrog Energy, where most of the day is spent on guided, hands-on 3D
geomodelling to support drilling decisions. In the afternoon, you will see how
Leapfrog models transfer efficiently into Volsung for simulation and rapid
forecasting, finishing with a practical megawatts challenge to compare scenarios
and understand key sensitivities from exploration through to early production
planning.
From Concept to Production: A Practical Integrated Geothermal Workflow from Geological Modeling to Reservoir Simulation
Join us for a full-day, hands-on workshop that walks through an end-to-end geothermal workflow, demonstrating how you can move from early exploration inputs to an evidence-based view of what a geothermal system may produce. The session combines practical exercises with focused theory to explain why each step matters, from geological understanding through to early-stage production forecasting.
The day begins with a brief demonstration using Oasis Montaj, illustrating how early-stage geoscience data and interpretations can be prepared, reviewed, and passed efficiently into a 3D modelling environment. This segment is intended to provide context rather than detailed training.
The first half of the day focuses on hands-on geological modelling in Leapfrog Energy. Participants will import and organize datasets, build lithology and alteration models, incorporate structural interpretations, and integrate these elements into a coherent conceptual geological model that supports drilling and development decisions.
The second half of the day focuses on reservoir modelling using Volsung. We will demonstrate a streamlined Leapfrog–Volsung handover, showing how the conceptual model, wells, and sections transfer cleanly into simulation. The session will cover boundary condition setup, basic model calibration, and the construction of surface networks, highlighting how geological understanding is translated into a working reservoir model suitable for scenario testing and early production assessment.
Short case studies will be shared throughout the workshop to illustrate how teams apply these integrated workflows in practice, and the value gained by linking exploration, geological modelling, and reservoir simulation within a single, consistent framework.
This is a free, in-person workshop. Participants will gain practical experience with industry-leading software and leave with a clear understanding of how an integrated concept-to-production geothermal workflow fits together across disciplines and tools.
To close the day, we invite you to join us for networking drinks. This is a dedicated space to connect with fellow participants, continue the day’s discussions, exchange ideas, and build new professional connections in a relaxed setting.
The course is capped to ensure a quality training experience for all participants. Once the registration limit is reached, additional registrants will be added to a waitlist and notified if a spot becomes available.
We require a minimum number of attendees to deliver the course. In the event of low registrations, the course will be postponed or cancelled. We do not offer refunds or compensation on personal expenses.
Partnership
This workshop is proudly supported by the International Geothermal Association (IGA), in partnership with Seequent to advance geothermal knowledge and collaboration.
Ollie is a Senior Solutions Engineer at Seequent and a geophysicist with more than 15 years in energy. He enables organisations to get value from Oasis montaj, Leapfrog Energy and Volsung by focusing on workflow design, project scoping, data management, and training. Before Seequent he worked internationally with WesternGeco, Schlumberger’s geophysical division, in marine seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation. He is a member of GESGB and EAGE, a Fellow of the Geological Society of London, and serves on the UK committee for Women in Geothermal (WING).
Esteban Gómez-Díaz is a geothermal specialist at Seequent with international expertise in reservoir characterization and numerical simulation. He recently completed a dual PhD at RWTH Aachen University and ETH Zürich through the ITN EASYGO geothermal program, where his work focused on developing quantitative methods to describe subsurface properties, translate them into stable, decision-ready reservoir models, and build robust 3D geothermal models. His experience includes applied research and industry collaborations with Reykjavík Energy and Fraunhofer IEG, as well as internships with ÍSOR (Iceland GeoSurvey) and the University of Hawaiʻi. His international work has taken him to Colombia, Mexico, the USA, Iceland, Germany, and Switzerland.
